Artist Statement
MY work explores the relationship between nature, memory, impermanence, and the quiet forces that shape our lives. Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, I create works that feel both discovered and made, as though they carry a history that began long before they entered my hands.
Nature is more than a subject in my work; it is a language. Animals, organic forms, weathered surfaces, earth, movement, and the passage of time become ways of considering our place within something larger than ourselves. I am drawn to beauty not as perfection, but as something revealed through age, change, erosion, imbalance, and the marks left behind by experience.
My practice is influenced by Taoist (Daoist) thought and its understanding of balance, transformation, simplicity, and our relationship with the natural world. I am particularly drawn to the idea that opposing forces need not exist in conflict-that strength can reside beside vulnerability, permanence beside decay, and stillness beside movement. Rather than seeking to control every element of a work, I leave space for intuition, material, chance, and process to become part of its creation.
Whether working in paint, sculpture, or any mixed media, I approach each piece as a conversation between intention and discovery. Texture, gesture, material, and form retain evidence of the hand that made them. These traces are important to me; they allow the work to remain human, tactile, and imperfect.
Ultimately, I create art as a way of paying attention-to nature, to time, to memory, and to the extraordinary presence within ordinary things. I hope each work offers a moment of stillness: an invitation to look longer, to feel something familiar, and perhaps to recognize a connection that cannot be entirely explained.
